Ashwyn Beret

October 28, 2010

This was a fun hat to knit. It comes together quickly, and the design is evident from the beginning, so it’s quite rewarding. I had fun trying to find a name for it, too. Someone suggested I ask my husband, a huge fan of Tolkien, for name ideas. Well, I think most of those names are taken for knit designs already! But I did come by this name after looking up Eowyn anyway. 😉

Ashwyn is a name derived from the word Ashvin, a month on the Hindu calendar. Ashwyn is a slouchy beret which was created in conjunction with Malabrigo Stockpile Month, so the name seemed fitting. It was also inspired by the 198 Yds of Heaven shawlette by Christy Verity, and coordinates nicely with that scarf. Knit from the top down, Ashwyn features a leaf lace pattern that blooms from the crown. The hat is finished off with 1×1 ribbing. Pattern includes full chart, and written instructions.  Size can be adjusted slightly by varying yarn and gauge. Requires 125 yds worsted yarn. Finished size fits average female head. (Shown in Malabrigo Worsted, Pearl)
